We were extremely honoured to be asked to run an event for the opening of the Leeds Digital Festival 2018 on the 16th of April.
Our kick-off event, “Enabling Groundbreaking Innovation: Fantastic Grants and Where to Find Them”, was the first of a series. Indeed, we want to hold talks on innovation funding on a regular basis. Actually, innovation funding is a complex topic and there is a lot to know before even considering going for a grant.
After an introduction by Thierry Salus-Robbins, the first session brought Irene Arrata from DRIAD and Ian Sharp from DHEZ on stage. They offered a global overview on the topic with general tips and useful information. The take-home messages:
- plan ahead
- invest time and money
- treat your application like a project
- know where you are going
- remember that collaboration is key.
The second session went into more details on specific funding instruments. First up was Neil Maloney, R&D Tax Credit Expert from GK. His message was that you don’t need to be extremely innovative to benefit from R&D tax relief and that the areas it covers are quite wide. Finally, Vivien Badaut, CEO of DRIAD, presented European funding opportunities. He told the audience how extremely competitive those grants are.
We want to thank again Duke Studios who are making their fantastic space available for free for the Leeds Digital Festival.
If you were there, we hope you enjoyed it. We’ve had some great feedback already.
Watch this spot, because there will be more.
